Parents’ Access to Care Shouldn’t Stop Because Program Funding Ended

The CRD Perinatal Counselling Prgram ended June 30, 2025, concluding 35 years of free postpartum and perinatal counselling for families.

We believe perinatal mental health counselling should be universally accessible. Until that becomes reality, we’ve created a partial bridge.

In July 2025, we launched a new version of the old service. Soon after, we expanded the service area from Greater Victoria to Vancouver Island. This is how the Island Perinatal Counselling Network came to be.

Our Care Coordinator still takes referrals from medical professionals from across the Island Health area. We still take cals from parents. And we still take the time with you on the phone to help you find the perinatal specialist who matches your needs and preferences.

The difference?

Most counselling now involves a fee. But we’ve expanded the options:

  • Multiple specialists – Registered counsellors with different private practice rates all offer specialized perinatal mental health care.
  • Affordable care – Perinatal interns offer low-cost counselling under expert supervision.
  • Wider area – Services for parents across the Island Health Area — from Victoria to Port Hardy.
  • Community connections – Sometimes your optimal service or provider is not in our network, and we’ll help you connect with them when that’s the case.

One call connects you to all options. Our Care Coordinator will work with you to find services that fit your needs and budget—whether inside or outside our network.

The McGee Therapy Clinic helps ensure parents in Victoria and across Vancouver Island can access quality perinatal mental health care through its Internship & Fellowship Programs, and its Affordable Therapy Plan.

Our Master’s-level counsellors provide perinatal counselling for $80 (Interns) and $120 (Fellows). Significantly lower than the rates of registered counsellors, you can access fees that are even lower — up to 50% less — by calling and asking about the Affordable Therapy Plan.
